Top Marketing Strategies For Your eCommerce Business

The marketing strategy you’re currently using for your eCommerce business is working well enough, but you’re constantly hearing about companies that are doing better than yours.

Is there something you’re missing? The world of eCommerce moves quickly, it might be time to update your marketing plan to reflect the current state of the industry.

Marketing Strategies for Your eCommerce Business

There are lots of ways to be a successful marketer in today’s digital world, though it still takes some effort to really achieve greatness. Although every company has a different overall marketing plan, these plans often share similar elements.

Here are just a few tricks that eCommerce businesses large and small have found useful:

  • Test your marketing. There’s nothing worse than a marketing strategy that doesn’t work, but it’s difficult to know what’s going to be popular with today’s eCommerce crowd.

That’s why A/B testing and keyword testing on social media are both such important parts of your approach. Test out different marketing messages on your audience and track their results, and do the same with your social media keywords for the most effective ad spend.

  • Focus on influencers. Influencers can be your best brand ambassadors if you’ll only let them. Give them opportunities to share fun content from your brand, provide them with free samples to get their attention and when they do post about your brand, make sure you acknowledge them.
  • Retarget gently. You can do some “in your face” retargeting, but it won’t help a lot. People don’t like being screamed at or told they must click now. Instead, send out subtle signals and special offers that they might be interested in using. This could be anything from free consultations with a code from that ad to discounts on merchandise.
  • Be prepared. All the best marketing strategy in the world won’t be enough if you aren’t prepared to serve the customers who come calling. From people who man the email and social media to the people who do order fulfillment, you’re going to need help if your market’s hopping. Design a plan of attack for customer service, including directions for email contacts, social media interactions and telephone orders, as well as special instructions for your 3rd party logistics team.

The top marketing strategies for your eCommerce business don’t have to be complicated. In fact, it’s the little things and the subtle ways you do them that matter most. If you test your marketing pieces, you retarget your visitors with care and you’re prepared when those customers finally do start knocking on your door, there’s nothing that can keep you from success.
